I’ve been to a lot of events and met numerous budding authors.

Some have finished writing their book and are now exploring next steps. Others have submitted their work to various local and international publishers hoping to get a contract. While others still are considering self-publishing.

All of these options are valid ways to get your book to market. But, it can take time, can be confusing and can be complicated. And, it can have no end date as you wait for months and hear nothing.

I know, because I’ve been there too.

Most of the big publishers get thousands of manuscripts submitted for review and are only able to offer a small number of contracts. Vanity publishers charge a fee for publishing your book and promise the world, while not actually contributing much, if anything, themselves - they make their money from fees, not sales. While self-publishing relies on the author trying to do everything themselves from writing to administration and marketing.

I wanted to offer something different. A real partnership where both you as the author and me as the publisher make contributions to the success of your book. Yes we charge fees for services, but we match those with our own contributions.

So how does it work? Say for example a book takes ten hours to edit. You’ll pay for five hours and we’ll contribute the other five. The same rule applies for cover design, creating marketing materials and more. Our primary source of income is from the sale of your books, not from service fees.

Why do we make a contribution and not just charge you a full fee? Because it means we have skin in the game. It means we work just as hard as you to make your book a success and drive sales! The more books we sell, the more we both benefit.

Why do you charge service fees at all? We’re just starting out and we’re looking to compete with some very big players in the publishing game. At this stage, we can’t offer everyone upfront payments or fee free traditional contracts - though we are offering some - but we can offer more creative control, excellent royalty rates and a genuine partnership option where we succeed when you succeed.

Do you offer traditional publishing contracts? Yes, we offer traditional contracts for the right works and authors, and hopefully even more in the future. But until then, we’re focused on partnerships with varying fee structures depending on the commercial assessment of the manuscript. A partnership where we share the risks and the rewards.

We’ll be selective in the books we agree to publish and the authors we chose to work with, but when we choose to become your publishing partner we agree to leave nothing on the table to make it a success. Your win is our win.

I decided to start Jeffrey + Wallace Publishing to help authors get their books published - to bring more stories to the world! Not everyone can get a traditional contract, and not everyone has the time and dedication needed for self-publishing. That’s where we come in and work with you as partners to drive our shared success.
